Eng. Albert Mugo, National Chairman.

Eng. Albert Mugo (59) holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Masters of Business Administration in Strategic Management, both from University of Nairobi.  In 2012, he also completed the Advanced Management Programme from Strathmore University. He is a registered Professional Engineer with The Engineers’ Board of Kenya and a member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya.

He has worked in the Energy Sector for over 30 years. He started his career as a graduate electrical engineer in Kenya Pipeline Company, before moving to The Kenya Power & Lighting Co Ltd where he rose through the ranks to a manager’s position in 2001.

In 2008, he was appointed the Business Development and Strategy Director in Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd (KenGen) where he was in charge of planning for growth of the Company as well as implementation of power projects.

In January 2014, Eng. Mugo was appointed the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KenGen where he is currently leading a team of Executive Directors with the mandate of rapidly increasing electricity generation capacity that Kenya needs in order to achieve its Vision 2030.

In February 2014 he was elected as a delegate of Stima Plaza KenGen and subsequently elected to the Board of Stima Sacco on 11th April 2014. He was elected vice chairman of the Board of Stima Sacco on 7th April 2016. He ascended to the National Chairmanship on 19th January 2017 upon the retirement of Dr. Ben Chumo. He was subsequently re-elected as National Chair on 5th April, 2017.

 

Dr Ken Tarus BCom, MBA, PHD (B.Ad. - Finance), Vice Chairman

Dr. Tarus (46) brings with him over 20 years’ corporate leadership and management experience, five of which are in the energy sector. Prior to his appointment as the MD & CEO Kenya Power, he was the Company’s General Manager in charge of Finance and a member of the executive management team for a period of two years.

Previously, Dr Tarus worked at the Rural Electrification Authority as head of Finance between 2012 and 2014, prior to which he was the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance, Planning and Administration at KCA University. He has held various leadership roles in the local banking sector as Head of Finance, IT and Administration at Bank of Africa, Financial Controller at Standard Chartered Bank and diverse positions at Kenya Commercial Bank.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Kabarak University, an MBA from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the same institution. Dr. Tarus is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Kenya Institute of Management. He was elected as the Sacco’s Vice Chairman on the 5th of April, 2017.

 

Mr. Osman Kiloh Khatolwa, Honorary Secretary

Mr. Khatolwa (44) joined Kenya Power in 1998 and was elected as a Director of Stima Sacco in 2015. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a holder of a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Operations Management as well as an MBA in Operations Management from the University of Nairobi.

 

He is a holder of KATC I & II (Kenya Accounting Technician Certificate) Intermediate and Final, and is a member of the Operations Management Society of Kenya (OMS– K) and currently Chair, Private Sugarcane Growers Associations (PSGA) Kakamega.

 

Mr. Khatolwa also holds a Diploma in Social Protection and Development from African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC), Harare Zimbabwe and a certificate in Labour Inspection and Work Compliance from Turin, Italy administered by International Labour Organization (ILO). He is an African Development Educator. (ADE)

 

Mr. Khatolwa has served as a delegate at the Institute of Energy (Kenya Power Training School), Electricity House and currently Kitengela. He has worked under various departments within Kenya Power namely Human Resource and Administration, Finance and currently in Distribution where he is in charge of Way Leaves, Nairobi West Region. He was elected as the Honorary Secretary on 5th April, 2017.

 

FCPA John Mudany, National treasurer

John Mudany (54) is a fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), and is a holder of a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and International Business (MIBA).

FCPA Mudany is the Finance & ICT Director at KenGen. The division comprises Finance, Corporate Finance & ICT. The division is mandated to raise funds to finance multi-billion energy generation projects, management of financiers, banking relations, financial reporting, budget process management and control, organizational restructuring and cost saving mechanisms.

The division is also tasked with development of cutting edge ICT infrastructure, including automation of processes, developing an integrated environment. He was instrumental in raising US$1.37bn debt from DFI and US$315million from a bond in East Africa. He was elected to the board of Stima Sacco on 24th March 2016 and subsequently elected as the National treasurer on 7th April 2016, retaining his position on 5th April 2017.

 

 M/s. Beatrice M Meso, Director

M/s. Beatrice Mugeni Meso (48) serves as General Manager, Corporate Affairs & Company Secretary of The Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited. She has served as Company Secretary of the company since October 1, 2013. She holds Master of Laws (LL.M), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees from the University of Nairobi.

 

She also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a Certified Public Secretary, an Arbitrator, a Commissioner for Oaths, and a Notary Public. She is extensively trained in Corporate Governance and Leadership.

 

M/s Beatrice has wide hands-on experience in the Company having been the Legal Services Manager prior to her appointment as Company Secretary in 2013. She has proficiency in public and private sector administration, governance, policy formulation and implementation, Company Secretarial practice, legal and regulatory matters, and in electricity trade. She was elected to the Board of Stima Sacco on 24th March 2016 and subsequently elected as the honorary secretary on 7th April 2016.

 

COMM. Anne E Owuor HSC, Director

Anne (56) is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Risk & Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Forensic Investigating Professional (CFIP) holder of a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from USA, a Master’s of Science (MSc.) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Audit Management & Consultancy from the Birmingham University U.K. She is currently studying for a Doctorate degree.

She has over 30 years’ experience in the Public Sector, having worked in the Office of the President and Kenya Power & Lighting Company Ltd (KPLC). She held various senior management positions within KPLC - Chief Accountant, Internal Audit Manager and Debt Control Manager as well as being the Gender Coordinator. She retired from KPLC in April. 2015.

Anne was appointed by the President of Kenya as a Commissioner with the Salaries & Remuneration Commission in 2011 and appointed by the Cabinet Secretary Treasury to be a Board Director with the Public Sector Accountants Standard Board of Kenya from 2014 and reappointed for a further term in 2017.  She received a Head of State Commendation in December 2013 for her service to the country.

Anne has held several positions, namely;

 

·         Board member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) of the International Federation of Accountants 

 

·         Past Chairman of the Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya as well as a member of the International Committee of Quality at the Global level of the Institute of Internal Auditors

 

·         Currently Committee member IFAC - DFID Global Accountancy Development Program Oversight Committee

 

·         Past Council member of ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) 

 

·         Past Chairperson of the Association of Women Accountants in Kenya

 

·         Past KCA University Council Member & Chair of the Audit & Governance Committee 

 

·         Elected to the Board of Stima Sacco as a Director in 2014 and currently serves as the chair of the Audit committee.  Previously served as Supervisory Chair of Stima Sacco as from 2004 to2013. 

She has also written numerous articles and made presentations on accountancy and internal auditing. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Karura and the Treasurer of All Saints Cathedral Church.

 

Mrs. Florence Obura, BA, Post-Graduate Dip.; MA, Director

Mrs. Florence Obura (58), who holds Bachelors and Post-graduate qualifications, is an integrated communications, public relations, marketing, branding, change management and sustainability practitioner with more than 30 years’ professional hands-on experience.

Mrs. Obura was the Manager in charge of Corporate Communications at The Kenya Power & Lighting Company for 17 years until November 2014; and was also one time the Manager in charge of the marketing function in the company. She is now in private practice. Mrs. Obura was first elected to the Board of Stima Sacco in 2003, and served as Honorary Secretary for many years.

She has chaired the Board’s Business Strategy and Information Technology Committee (BST) continuously since 2010 (excluding 2014). As Chairperson of the BST Committee, Mrs. Obura has overseen the development and implementation of numerous Sacco products and services. Mrs. Obura has received extensive training in Sacco matters and is a certified Africa Development Educator (ADE).

 

M/s. Joyce Ochieng, Director

M/s. Joyce Ochieng (55) was elected to the Board in 2012 and serves as a member of the Procurement Oversight Committee as well as the Finance, Investment & Credit Committee. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in International Business Administration and Masters in Business Administration (Strategic Management). She also holds a post graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies.

She is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supplies (CIPS, UK) and Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM).

She has wide experience in both Finance and Supply Chain with over 20 years’ experience gained while working with Kenya Power and currently holds the position of Chief Supply Chain Officer.

 

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE

Sammy Ndung’u, Chairman, Supervisory Committee

Sammy (49)Currently working with the Judiciary of Kenya as a Regional Director of Finance, Sammy worked for the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) since its inception in the Finance and Commercial department. Before joining KenGen, he worked with Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC).

He is an experienced, seasoned and accomplished professional in financial management and systems accounting. He has over 24 years working experience in financial systems, management corporate finance and management accounting. Sammy possesses the following academic and professional qualifications:

  • SAP (FI)
  • CPA(K)
  • A member of ICPAK
  • A member of the Centre for Corporate Governance

He always looks for efficient, value adding and best business practices in his assignments.

 

Eng. Joseph W. Masibo, Secretary, Supervisory Committee

Eng. Joseph Masibo (57) was elected as a delegate and later as a Supervisory Member in 2008.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from McGill University and Master of Business Administration with major in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi.

He is a registered Engineer with ERB. He has a wide experience in power engineering and management, with over 27 years’ experience gained while working for Kenya Power and Lighting Company Ltd.

His career progression at KPLC started as a Graduate trainee in 1985 gradually rising through the ranks to the position of Chief Manager in 2008, a position he held until his retirement in 2015.

Mr. Abubakar Swaleh Shariff, Member, Supervisory Committee

Swale (50) joined Kenya Power in September 2014. Abubakar Swaleh holds an MBA from the UoN, a B.ED from Moi University and a Higher Diploma in HRM from IHRM. 

He brings over 20 years’ experience from reputable organizations such as BAT, Nation Media, MRM and SAFAL Group.  Before joining KPLC he served as Director HR & Shared Services for Gulf African Bank.

He was elected as a member of the supervisory committee of Stima Sacco on 24th March 2016.
