Job Summary

Reporting to the credit Manager, the job holder will be responsible for ensuring quality Credit appraisals in all committee levels and products of the Society.  

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate the financial performance of borrowers and based on a variety of credit risk and other factors, determining an appropriate risk rating for assigned portfolios.
  2. Monitor, evaluate and report on credit limits, exposures, and portfolio characteristics of all clients to adequately provide for any expected credit losses.
  3. Develop and review credit risk management policies and procedures to guide risk taking practices and decision making.
  4. Conduct Risk Reviews /Risk Opinions on credit applications and reviews to ensure there is independent, expert scrutiny of credit risks, their costs and their mitigations and provide feedback to business development officers during the structuring phase of credit facilities.
  5. Present the Risk Reviews, opinions, and recommendations on residual risks to the relevant Credit Committees for consideration in risk taking decisions.
  6. Implement [external & internal] audit findings or recommendations within agreed timeframe.
  7. Collect Data, sector exposures to provide decision makers with timely information by Identifying appropriate data sources to inform credit risk analysis and obtain appropriate access to this information.
  8. Contribute to the department’s periodic risk reporting process by ensuring timely submission of data to inform reporting.
  9. Act as Secretary to the Head Office Credit Committee to keep record of deliberations and ensure meetings are held in a structured manner by sending Invitations & Agenda for Credit Committee meetings to Members, Presenters & Observers.
  10. Establish internal controls and other fraud prevention strategies to guard against financial loss and ensuring adherence by all the branches.
  11. Coordinate and assist branches in all lending issues to continuously improve their efficiency and performance.  
  12. Train new credit officers to equip them with knowledge and skills to effectively perform their roles.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Academic Qualifications

  • Business graduate from an accredited university  
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, CCP or CFA will be an added advantage. 

Experience

  • Proven experience of at least three (5) years in a similar position with hands on experience in managing a portfolio of clients and analyzing corporate proposals.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Detailed knowledge of relevant Bank policies, e.g. Credit, KYC, AML
  • A good understanding of the target market and growth opportunities
  • Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s products and services  

Key Result Areas

  • Ability to negotiate and close deals 
  • Ability to cross sell products of the Bank and maximize on revenues from a customer. 
  • Ability to monitor targets, use relevant information from dashboard
  • Ability to identify what competition is doing and recommend improvements in products/services.
